Call for Participation: Revolutionale – International Round Table Conference 2026 for Democracy and Human Rights

From 8 to 10 October 2026, Leipzig will become an international meeting place for democracy and civil society, with a special focus on Eastern and East-Central Europe.

Under this year’s theme, “Democratic Memories. Democratic Futures,” the International Round Table (IRT26) will bring together people in Leipzig who are working under diverse conditions to advance democracy and human rights. The event provides a platform for an active and resilient civil society.

IRT26 creates a safe space to discuss shared values, address current and structural challenges, and develop strategies for action. Participants from Germany, across Europe, and beyond are warmly welcome, including individuals and organizations working in exile.

Building on the experiences of the Peaceful Revolution and civic resistance—and marking the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster—we will explore the interconnections between ecological, political, and societal transformation processes.

The programme focuses both on the consequences of authoritarian rule and on the cross-border impact of collective action. It offers space to reflect on past experiences as well as present-day realities.

We invite participants to consider how democratic memories—whether personal or collective—can inspire civic engagement today, strengthen human rights-based approaches, and contribute to more inclusive, participatory, and sustainable visions for the future. Democracy is continually shaped by those who practice and defend it.

Would you like to be part of the International Round Table 2026? We warmly invite you to apply by 15 July 2026. All relevant information can be found in the attached PDF or on the Revolutionale website under Participation.
