AK feminist peace research

Welcome to the website of the AK Feminist Peace Research!

Who we are.

The working group emerged from a workshop on the institutionalisation of feminist peace research in German-speaking countries at the AFK Colloquium 2023. At our founding workshop in November 2023, we agreed not only to conduct feminist research, but also to work together in a spirit of solidarity and empowerment. Mutual support is therefore an elementary component of the working group. The working group is open to anyone who wants to engage with the content of feminist peace research. Where there are overlaps, the working group works closely with other bodies of the AFK (e.g. Network of Women Peace Researchers, other working groups).

Our primary goal is the institutionalisation of feminist peace research in German-speaking countries.

How the AK is organised...

The working group is organised in so-called ‘teams’ in order to work on several topics at the same time. The working group sees itself as a community of practice, i.e. an active opportunity to collaborate on these topics. New topics are possible at any time. Collaboration is possible at any time, simply contact fem-peace@afk-web.de

The idea is that a person reports on a current research project (thesis, research project, dissertation, habilitation) and enters into an open, collegial and supportive exchange with specific questions. Registration via fem-peace@afk-web.de

FemPeaceTalk: takes place online approximately every three to four months. Information is provided via https://lists.lists.afk-web.de/mailman/listinfo/liste-fempeace

On 30 October 2024 at 8 pm, the working group hosted its next FemPeaceTalk. This time on the topic of “Feminist research after the quake. Reflections on the contribution of feminist research on right-wing radicalism, anti-feminist backlash and political strategy“. After an input from Victoria Scheyer, we discussed interventions and the design of socio-critical research together.

The working group’s research workshop started in the winter semester 2024/25. The dates in the winter semester were: 11 October, 10 January, 14 February.

On 13 March 2024 (4.30-6 p.m.), the roundtable on ‘Interdisciplinary breadth in methods, perspectives and topics’ took place as part of the AFK Colloquium 2024 in Darmstadt. Hannah Neumann, Maria Cardenas, RyLee Hühne and Patricia Konrad provided insights into the breadth of feminist peace research from different disciplinary backgrounds. Participants then had the opportunity to supplement this range with their own experiences.

On 19 January 2024 (12:00-14:00), the first open exchange on “What does feminist peace research mean, how does it relate to gender and pacifism? A localisation” took place online. After two short inputs by Patricia Konrad and Patricia Rinck, there was an open discussion on the question.

On 10 November 2023 (1pm-4pm) and 11 November (9am-12pm), the constituent meeting of the AK Feministische Friedensforschung took place online.

On 31 March 2023 (9-10.30 am), the workshop ‘“Institutionalizing Peace & Feminisms*”: How do we anchor Feminist Peace Research in Germany?’ took place as part of the AFK Colloquium 2023 in Berlin-Spandau, where the foundation stone for the AK foundation was laid.
